about us
Dedicated, caring local citizenshelping local animals
Who is the WCGHS?
We are an independent, 501(c)(3) non-profit, no-kill, animal shelter established in 1994. Its programs and services are carried out by a mostly volunteer staff dedicated to caring for animals and finding loving homes for each one. We operate an extensive foster homes program, a cat shelter and a dog shelter located at the Port of Camas/Washougal, Washington, and other programs to help animals in the local community.
What is a NO-KILL SHELTER?
While our dog and cat shelters are not able to take all animals that come to us because of space and other limitations, we make a lifetime commitment to those we shelter. We dedicate resources to quality adoptions, foster homes, sheltering, community outreach, and education as alternatives to euthanizing healthy animals for population control. In addition, we advocate spaying/neutering. We operate Trap-Neuter-Return (TRN) programs for free roaming feral cats in the local area.
Who do we HELP?
Local residents residents place thousands of calls for help to our shelters each year. We respond to every one, offering advice and assistance with pet problems with the goal of helping keep the animals with their current owners. If a person must give up his/her pet, we take in the animal and shelter it as long as we have staff and space available.
What is our VISION?
Our vision is that every companion animal born will be welcomed into a responsible, loving home where a lifetime commitment is made to its welfare.
What is our MISSION?
Our mission is to eliminate unnecessary euthanasia of healthy or treatable companion animals in the community and find them permanent, loving homes.
What is our TAX STATUS for donations?
West Columbia Gorge Humane Society is a 501(c)(3)non-profit organization and all donations are income tax deductible to the fullest extent of the law.
