ADOPTABLE PETS
Looking for a new companion animal? Adopt a pet from our Dog or Cat Shelter. We have many animals that are eagerly awaiting permanent, loving homes.
Q. May I adopt a pet as a gift for someone else?
No. Adopting a pet is a personal lifestyle decision. All potential adopters are carefully screened by our Adoptions Counselors to ensure that the pet and adopter are a good match. If you’re considering adopting a pet as a gift, we recommend that you purchase an WCGHS GIFT CARD instead.

Q. I'm looking for a certain breed; can you tell me if there is one one available right now for adoption?
Although we may have the breed you desire, we might not be able to provide this information by telephone, or hold the animal for you due to limited staff and space at the dog shelter. Even so, we encourage you to call us to inquire, and we will make every effort to respond to your specific request.

Benefits of adopting
a shelter animal.

* Adopting a dog or cat from an animal shelter rather than through other avenues means you are helping, and not contributing to, the pet overpopulation problem.
* The cost of adopting a pet at an animal shelter is usually much less expensive than buying one from a breeder or pet store.
* Breeders or pet stores that sell animals have the incentive to make money, whereas shelters are focused on the animals' best interests.
*All animals adopted from WCG Humane Society have already been spayed or neutered. Most of them have also been health checked, wormed, and vaccinated. They are also implanted with a unique, microchip ID to assist in their return should they become lost.
* Shelter dogs and cats have often adjusted to being around other animals and a variety of people.

*Many people express that adopting a dog or cat from a shelter is an extremely spiritually rewarding - they know that they are saving a life (some shelters euthanize animals for population control) and giving a loving animal a chance to enjoy a permanent, new home.

Adoption Kits for pets

Upon approval, the adopter will welcome his/her new pet into the home with a WCGHS Adoption Kit that includes:

Free 1st Veterinary Exam Certificate
Pet care information video and pamphlets
Coupons from participating pet care retailers
Free bag of premium pet food

We often include other items, such a cat treats, toys, dog leash, dog harness, etc., when available.

Our pets go home with the BIG THREE:
Microchip ~ Spay/Neuter ~ Vaccinations

At the time all a WCGHS cat or dog goes to its new home, it will be:

1. Microchip implanted with a unique, identifying ID
2. Current vaccinations
3. Parasite control treatment

Any animal that has NOT received a microchip or has NOT been spayed/neutered prior to adoption will go home with a certificate to cover the cost of these important procedures.

'100% Matchmaker' Guarantee

At WGCHS, we get to know the personality of our animals, which helps us match them with their new surroundings, and the families who will take care of them. Sometimes, however, unanticipated issues arise that make it impossible for the adoption to last. For this reason, we send every animal home with our '100% Matchmaker Guarantee.' It is our assurance to you and your adopted pet that if you are not right for each other for any reason, we will welcome the animal back any time.
