HELPING AN INJURED PET

Q. What can I do if I find an injured pet by the side of the road?: There are are many small steps you can take to help a helpless creature. And more than doing good to the animals, it will do good to your heart.

When you come across a starving, ill or injured animal, try to help it by offering food and fresh water, or giving it first aid, as needed.

If you can’t provide care, help is just a telephone call away at the local animal welfare organization.

Keep in mind, however, that programs providing help to pets are staffed mostly by volunteers, are often short of funds, and are not likely to have an ambulance available to transport an injured animal.

If this is the case, offer your car to transport the animal. Place newspapers on the seat so that they don’t get soiled. This effort may cause a little personal inconvenience, but you will be rewarded by the tremendous satisfaction that comes from helping an animal in need.
